SERVICES

Neuropsychological Evaluation

Our doctors provide neuropsychological evaluations to maximize understanding of a patient's cognitive and emotional functioning. We provide assessment for school-aged children through adults with a wide range of referral questions.

Examples of common referral issues

  • Traumatic Brain Injury: What are the enduring effects of an injury and what treatment might help?
  • Memory and Aging: Is this normal age-related change or a disease? Or is it something else?
  • Learning and Development:  Does this patient have a developmental disorder affecting learning? If  so, how can we help  to circumvent these weaknesses and provide the best  learning environment for success?
  • Changes in Personality and Behavior: Are these symptoms of a psychiatric disorder or do they signify a brain-related syndrome?

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy aims to help individuals capitalize on  their strengths and compensate for difficulties related to  neuropsychological conditions.  We offer psychotherapy work with  patients and families to:

  • Build insight into their current capabilities
  • Strengthen coping
  • Enhance adaptation to life changes
  • Provide emotional support through the experience of neurological conditions and recovery
  • Addressing social skills needs
  • Improving interpersonal relationships/support

We achieve this by personalizing a treatment plan that meets the needs of our patients and their families.

Neurorehabilitation

  • We offer individualized cognitive rehabilitation as an aspect of  our treatment services. Cognitive rehabilitation involves a systematic,  functionally-oriented service of therapeutic cognitive activities,  based on an assessment and understanding of the person's brain-behavior  deficits. Our cognitive rehabilitation services  seek to enhance functionality and help develop insight of strengths and  challenges through the cognitive rehabilitation process, to foster  greater success and independence in their daily life.

Our goal is to help you move forward to where you want to be in your life. Services are directed to achieve functional changes by

  1. Reinforcing, strengthening, or reestablishing previously learned  patterns of behavior, or
  2. Establishing new patterns of cognitive  activity or compensatory mechanisms for impaired neurological systems"  (Harley, et al., 1992, p.63).

Memory Rehabilitation Clinic

Memory problems can stem from many possible causes, including anxiety, mood issues, medical issues, vitamin deficiency, medication side effects, and neurological or neurosurgical disorders. Some of the memory problems are reversible.

Our Memory Rehabilitation clinic services help with

  • Identifying the primary and secondary causes of memory issues through a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation
  • Helping you understand the nature of your memory problems
  • Developing suitable cognitive compensatory strategies that are suitable for your lifestyle and situations
  • Training to use the memory strategies in clinic and real-life situations to enhance your independence and confidence at home, school, work, or other settings
  • Caregiver education to understand their loved one’s memory issues and training to support them to utilize compensatory strategies in their daily life
